This house and artist studio are sited at the forest edge, taking advantage of breathtaking views to the Appalachian Mountains and neighboring birch groves. Taking cues from the site, the mountain retreat offers a solid face to the northeast and opens to the south and west with expanses of glass. Roof overhangs and trellises optimize winter heat gain and summer shade. Inside, the space is efficiently composed, while the tall ceiling, open plan, and dramatic views maintain an expansive feel. |
