Digital Design and Manufacturing: CAD/CAM Applications in Architecture and Design. Kao co-authored with D. Schodek, M. Bechthold, K. Griggs, M. Steinberg for Wiley Press. Kao researched exemplars in translation of digital designs for fabrication, detailing advances and challenges in digital transformation of the traditional craft of building.
Component Prototype, co-taught with Kimo Griggs
This workshop researched the design and development process for developing advanced building components, exploring the integration of digital technology throughout the process of design conception, mockup, prototyping, fabrication and construction. Key concepts included: Complex form finding, rapid prototype, concurrent design and fabrication, mass customization, just in time production, total quality management. |
