Kao Design Group renovated an existing lab to create a highly collaborative and flexible space for Dr. John Warner and his team.  His Principles of Green Chemistry inspired this design for environmentally benign chemistry research and education.  Modular flexible labs were configured with cafeteria, conference, gaming, yoga, recreation, and lounge spaces to foster a more creative and relaxed atmosphere. Offices cluster around a sunlit bamboo courtyard, research library pods, patents, and research exhibit galleries.  A teaching lab was configured for the Beyond Benign education outreach.  Substantial scope of the existing laboratory, benches, hoods, doors, windows, lights, and ceilings were harvested and reused.  Construction waste was minimized, yielding savings.  Climate conditioning systems upgraded energy efficiency.  Laboratory aesthetics inspired custom test tube light fixtures, and super-graphics of molecular structures.
