Kenneth Kao, Dr. Technical Science, LEED AP, AIA

Dr. Ken Kao founded Kao Design Group in 1995. He contributed knowledge and expertise gained from 30 years of professional practice, teaching and research in architecture and building technology.  He combined his interests in environmentally sensitive ecological master planning with a passion for the art and craft of building. 

Ken served as a lecturer at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design for over 20 years, and taught at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH-Zurich. He has also taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and was a teacher and mentor to the staff at Kao Design Group. 

Ken co-authored a book on CAD-CAM technology, and his research and designs have been published extensively. 

He received a Doctor of Technical Science degree from ETH-Zurich, a Masters of Architecture with the AIA Merit Award and the Alpha Rho Chi Medal from Harvard University and a Bachelors degree (with distinction) in the Design of the Environment from the University of Pennsylvania.

Ken passed away on April 10th, 2017 after a long illness. The studio he founded continues to thrive and will uphold his enduring legacy.
