Responding to Sir Richard Branson’s eco-island design challenge, Kao Design Group leads a multi-disciplinary team of consultants and researchers to formulate strategic Green Island Development Initiatives. This team is developing a framework to adopt a broad range of best practices and green technology transfer, extending from energy, ecology, economy, and education. The collaboration drafted an island master plan that conserves terrestrial and marine bio-resources and habitats and adopts best practices, incorporates technology transfer, and strategically initiates select research agendas. The island is programmed for villas, recreation spa facilities, and staff accommodations. The project aims to revitalize its salt pond and mangrove nursery zone, minimize energy and water consumption; develop a waste management plan, be fully powered by renewable energy systems of wind and solar, and cultivate locally grown organic fruits and vegetables. |
