This house is sited to maximize the views to the ocean, minimize solar heat gain, and nestle into the landscape for privacy. The interior and exterior are composed of faded stained wood and local stone, salvaged from road construction. Existing stone ruins on the site were integrated with the new construction and landscape. The wood structure with thatch roofing is braced to withstand the strong hurricane winds. The pool area, screened from the setting sun by a broad palm canopy, combines a lap pool, the beach, and a seating alcove. |
